04 February 2013

Dubai, February 4th, 2013: Barclays Africa has partnered with ICLP in Dubai, the global leaders in loyalty, to develop and launch Worldmiles, a rewards programme for its platinum credit card holders. The programme claims several firsts in the market, such as the first card to offer cash and miles reward redemption option and the first independent airline miles programme in Africa.

Worldmiles is available to all Barclays Platinum cardholders in Botswana, Kenya and Egypt, with plans to extend to Mauritius in the near future, and caters to the increasing demand for travel and lifestyle  rewards in these African markets.  As a member of the Worldmiles programme, cardholders can earn Worldmiles for all their purchases locally, internationally and online. Worldmiles earned can be redeemed for travel anywhere in the world, on any airline throughout the year.

Rajal Vaidya, Consumer Director for Barclays Africa says: "With the rising numbers of affluent African consumers jet setting the globe there was a need to provide a payment solution which can provide benefits of unlimited miles and access to the best travel facilities. With this in mind, Barclays have designed Africa's first airline independent miles program that allows customers to earn miles on their purchases and redeem miles on any airline of their choice across the globe.

This really changes the game puts the power of miles and convenience of choosing any airline in the hands of the consumers. This is a cutting edge product and shows our commitment to use technology to make the lives of our customers much easier. Under the Worldmiles programme we have packaged several travel themed perks such as free flights, complimentary Priority Pass membership, free travel insurance and a host of exclusive Visa and other partner benefits, and intend to introduce even more benefits in the months ahead."

Rajal adds "Given ICLP's experience in developing and managing travel based reward programmes, and their  ability to deliver a comprehensive range of programme services across four markets, we felt they were the best partner for the Barclays Worldmiles programme."

Dion Maritz, Regional Director, Middle East comments: "ICLP is delighted to be the agency of choice for Barclays. There is a growing demand for travel based benefits in the premium segment and Barclays is one of the first to initiate a travel focused programme in Africa for this segment. With Barclay's local insights and our strong travel heritage we are confident the Worldmiles programme will be valued by Barclays Platinum cardholders."
